OUR MONTHLY ART CLASSES

The DAC on Dorp Art Classes Program is a dynamic arts education initiative that brings together young people from diverse communities across Cape Town — including Bo-Kaap, Langa, Nyanga, and Khayelitsha — to engage in transformative artistic expression. Targeted at youth aged 10 to 16, this program is rooted in the belief that creativity is a powerful tool for healing, learning, and empowerment.

Hosted in the heart of the city, our program creates a safe and inclusive space where children from different backgrounds can connect, collaborate, and learn from some of South Africa’s most inspiring visual artists, photographers, designers, and filmmakers. These invited artists don’t just teach—they mentor, share their journeys, and offer new ways of seeing the world through creativity.

Each session is designed to expand the imagination, build artistic skills, and cultivate confidence in self-expression. From drawing and painting to mixed media, film and mural work, the program explores different mediums that allow learners to express their stories, heritage, and dreams.

More than just an art class, DAC on Dorp is a space of belonging—where Cape Town’s young people are seen, heard, and celebrated. By bridging communities through art, we aim to foster a spirit of unity and creative freedom, encouraging the next generation of thinkers, dreamers, and doers.

Community Work

Our commitment to giving back to the community drives everything we do. We’re proud of the projects we’ve accomplished so far and are excited about the new initiatives currently in progress. These include reading and writing courses, additional art and photography classes, and more teenager camps. Looking ahead, our goal is to establish an after-school program for underprivileged children and teenagers.

Recently, DAC on Dorp, in collaboration with Lenica Productions, hosted a three-day teenager camp from 25th September to 27th September 2024. The camp featured art classes, cooking classes, photography workshops, and skills development sessions, all designed to focus on self-development and empowerment. These courses were facilitated by talented industry professionals, including artists, chefs, and photographers.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of our Spring Teenager Program! ‘We See Us’ Women’s Month Celebration

To celebrate the end of Women’s Month, we hosted a special day showcasing women creatives. The event featured a vibrant mix of activities, including a dance, poetry readings, fashion showcases, storytelling sessions, discussions, and a sip-and-paint session with @kabelomoraloki_art, one of the artists from the exhibition Unmasking Realities.

This informal gathering welcomed all genders, creating an inviting space to connect, share stories, and celebrate creativity together.

It was an inspiring afternoon dedicated to celebrating art and amplifying the voices of women creatives.

Thank you to everyone who attended and shared in the celebration of Women’s Month. The focus was on women’s empowerment, uplifting women through supportive friendships and networks. A special thanks to our guest speakers @manyatsamonyamane, @tammychetty, and @kikisbylin for their insightful and inspiring talk. DAC on Dorp and Viola @violamay4724, the curator, extend their appreciation to all the artists and photographers who assisted at the event. A big thank you to @tams.wilson for the lovely video!
