The Art Residency Program


We offer a free residency program for South African artists, providing vital resources, support, and funding to help emerging talent gain exposure. Artists can apply by submitting a proposal, which is carefully reviewed by our committee through a rigorous selection process to ensure the most deserving applicants are chosen. Since our launch, DAC on Dorp has grown into a vibrant hub for multidisciplinary art and community engagement. Our mission is to ignite dialogue, foster meaningful conversations, and inspire community transformation through the unifying power of art.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We welcome artists from all visual art disciplines. Applicants should be between 18 and 35 years old. Artists from South Africa and across Africa are encouraged to apply.

    Please note that travel costs are not covered. We provide accommodation and studio space. Painting materials, canvases, and cameras are not supplied, so please bring your own.

    1. Artists will have access to the studio/workspace and on-site accommodation.

    2. Artists are required to provide their own materials; however, DAC on Dorp can provide recommendations for suppliers if needed.

    3. This residency is offered free of charge. Please note that no stipend or financial compensation is provided.

    4. As part of the residency, artists are expected to participate in public engagement activities, which may include artist talks, workshops, exhibitions, or other community events.

  • Printing Rights
    Dac on Dorp reserves the right to obtain the printing rights for one artwork created by the artist during their residency. This artwork will be featured in the annual Friends of Dac on Dorp edition, a collection of prints from all artists who have participated in our funded residency program.

    The edition is distributed both nationally and internationally, providing a key platform to support this self-funded initiative. This exposure also offers artists valuable opportunities to connect with wider artistic networks.

    Commission on Sales
    DAC on Dorp retains a 10% commission on:

    • Any artwork sold during the exhibition.

    • Any artwork created during the residency that is sold before the conclusion of the residency and exhibition period.

    Catalogue Submission
    Artists must submit their catalogue no later than one week before the conclusion of the residency and final exhibition.
